 | The northernmost Natural Park of th province, barely 90 minutes from Almerías's capital, borders with Murchia and Granada and is easily accessible forme the motorway along the Mediterranean.
Its outstanding beauty, with a combination of rugged peaks and lush forests, and its snow covered peaks, is in marked contrast to the typical arid nature of the zone. Holm oaks are the most typical trees, although the pine forests cover a wider area. Above fly the birds of prey, and it is not difficult to catch sight of a Royal Eagle or Goshawk. Mammals such as Spanish wild cats, genets or foxes are also common in the forests. The area is part of the Marquesado de los Vélez, which explains its rich artistic and documental heritage, and it has important prehistoric remains such as the Cueva de los Letreros or the Cueva Ambrosio.
